The IDF–900 is designed to detect mines and improvised explosive systems (IED) within explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and counter terrorist applications.

The IDF-900 is used by combat engineers to detect explosives and weapons containing electronic components such as: special remote control receivers, transceivers; electronic fuses; electronic timers and delayed-action units.

The IDF-900 has been successfully deployed by Special Forces for EOD tasks in military operations since 2001. The IDF-900 can be used for different applications: detection of remote-controlled explosives in areas with many large metal objects (under railway lines, in vehicles etc.) and behind different barriers (including reinforced). The IDF-900 is suitable for mine detection and hidden arms cache detection.

The IDF-900 is specially designed for military use and includes the following features: increased battery operation time; rugged input/output sockets; simple operator controls; easily man-portable. The IDF-900 provides an increased detection rate compared with traditional IED detection methods. All controls and a handle are placed on the antenna head.

The system can be successfully deployed as well to detect a wide range of weapons such as: mines; hidden arms caches.

It works on the operational principle of non-linear junction technology (NLJD) and is based on the effect of non-linear signal ‘transduction’ inside objects containing semi conducting components. Systems containing semi-conducting components react to high frequency signals transmitted by non-linear NLJD and reradiate the energy back on doubled and tripled frequencies of the original flooding signal.

Electronic components return more of these 2nd harmonic signals (they reflect the signal). In addition, oxidized metallic items that are difficult to detect as well as other metallic objects return the 3rd harmonic signals, yielding a more accurate and efficient detection.

Using NLJD for the detection and analysis of 2nd harmonics that are received through the “flooding” by signals allows the identification of explosive systems containing electronic components. Third harmonic detection and analysis provide the ability to detect a wide range of weapons and arms including concealed caches.

The IDF-900 allows the effective detection of electronics systems, even when the target area is crowded by large metal objects. It is designed for outdoors use. It is dust-proof and shock-proof, with a solid case and can be used in a wide range of temperatures.
